My First Semester in College!
Hello, guys, and welcome back to my blog page. I hope all of your days are going well and that you find a reason to smile today!
I gathered some questions about my first semester in college from a number of people and I will be answering four of them below. I will answer them as accurately and as thoroughly as I can, but they are my opinion and experience, and are not at all a generalization.
1. What did you find most difficult your first semester?
- The most difficult part of my first semester was learning to adjust and balance. I have always lived with another adult and had most of my problems solved within a few minutes. On campus, I had to hunt down different departments, different people, and different places just to get the answer to one question. I had to adjust to a new schedule. It was hard, but by my third week, I was used to it. When I say balance, I mean the balance between all aspects of life. There were times when I couldn't focus on my emotions because I had work to do. I had to put relationships on hold because I couldn't make time for sleep, school, friends, and family at the same time. I'm still learning, but I'm blessed to have a group of friends, a boyfriend, and a family who all understand and who just want me to be happy and healthy.
2. How did you choose Georgia Southern University?
- In high school, the first college tour I went on was to Georgia Southern. After my freshman year, I was able to go back to the campus every year for a second, third, and fourth tour. Every time I visited the campus, I was happy with the size, the people, the resources, and the food lol. Also, it was a bonus that two of my favorite people were students there.
3. What should anyone expect when coming to college?
- No matter where you decide to go, you should expect to have bad days and days where you're really happy. The day where you don't want to be bothered by anyone will happen. The day(s) that you don't want to go to class will happen, and it will be your decision to make. However, you will also have days where you can't stop smiling and you won't really have an explanation for it. You just have to learn now how to act on these specific days. Also, expect to meet people who you'd otherwise not meet. People that have different political views, religious beliefs, and different ways of thinking will enter your life. Just be respectful of every separate person's thoughts and there shouldn't be any problems if they are respectful as well.
4. How should I go about having a fun experience in college?
- Try to stray away from your norms. Step out of your comfort zone. Do something new. Join a club and hang out with people you wouldn't otherwise talk to. You'll find that everyone has great qualities and you are guaranteed to have a good time once you accept the new situation and learn to live freely.
I will update this post with more questions indefinitely, so please check back regularly. If you have a question or you want advice or just want to talk to me, please visit my Contact page and send me your question. I'd be happy to help!
